Start Date: 9/24/2020Start Time: 11:30 AM
End Date: 9/24/2020End Time: 12:30 PM

Event Description:

This September is a chance for a fresh start to 2020. Students are returning to school. Parents are catching their breath. More businesses are opening and people are learning a new routine of life. A lifestyle shift heralds a chance to not fall behind on school readings and to do lists, go to the gym, and figure out how to get involved in physically distanced new ways. Big goals based on daily habits. Join Dr. Kim Dawson and Dr. Anne Wilson to discuss how to maintain the motivation to engage in daily habits, such as physical activity, which can increase long term happiness. Check-in with your goals as well as to determine the best ways to achieve them!

Kim Dawson, professor of Kinesiology and Physical Education, is an expert on sport psychology and performance. She has worked with athletes of all types, including Olympic athletes, to prepare them for top performance under pressure. Kim will be addressing ways in which non-athletes can maintain motivation to stay healthy and reach their fitness goals.

Anne Wilson, is a professor in the Department of Psychology. Her research focuses on how self and identity changes over time, how people reconstruct their past and envision the future, and how this affects present identity, well-being, and decisions. She has studied goal pursuit and motivation, and how it is shaped by people's beliefs about the future and what will bring them happiness.  Anne will be discussing the importance of small daily behaviours (vs. major events) in long-term happiness and well-being.
