Giving the Planet a Voice || How to Talk About Climate Change
Start Date: 6/18/2020Start Time: 12:00 PM
End Date: 6/18/2020End Time: 1:00 PM

Event Description:

The science of climate change dates back to the 19th century with publications made as early as 1859. However despite the scientific proof, despite the endless photos of polar bears dying on melting glaciers, despite even the recent devastating realities of wildfires around the world, none of it has generated widespread public action. Why?

Common rhetoric in the climate change world is that the cause is us - human nature. That we’re innately greedy with little regard for future generations. However, what if human nature isn’t the problem? What if greenhouse gases aren’t even the problem? What if the real problem is how climate change has been communicated - the narratives of climate change?

In this webinar, we’ll cover:

  • Past and Current Narratives: How climate change has been talked about since first discovered - including the good, the bad, and the ugly.
  • Barriers: How psychological and social barriers influence how we receive information and apply it.
  • How to Talk About Climate Change: How to use narrative structures, visual grammar tools, and design elements when talking about climate change to best enact individual change.

Hosted by Founder/Content Creator, The Narrative of Climate Change, Annie Constantinescu (BBA '14)
