PS492 Applied Community Research Mini-Conference
Start Date: 4/26/2018
End Date: 4/26/2018

Event Description:

The PS492 Applied Community Research course is an 8-month long internship designed to give undergraduate students an opportunity to gain hands-on experience and skill in community-based research. Interns work in teams, along with a research mentor and associate professor, to design and implement a research project that addresses a community need. This course is offered with support from the Laurier Students' Public Interest Research Group (LSPIRG) and the Centre for Community Research Learning and Action (CCRLA).

At the 2018 Mini-Conference, this year's cohort of interns will present the findings of their research. Join us in recognizing and celebrating the accomplishments of the students, whose research projects included:

  • An analysis of demographics and indicators of the social determinants of health of people living with HIV in Waterloo Region.
  • Interviewing Muslim women in Waterloo Region about their experiences seeking and maintaining employment in Waterloo Region.
  • Interviewing family members of persons with developmental disabilities with regards to the ways in which their sense of belonging in community is facilitated.

This is an exciting opportunity to learn about community-engaged learning and scholarship taking place at Laurier, as well as the vital work of our project partners: the AIDS Committee of Cambridge, Kitchener and Waterloo Area (ACCKWA), Christian Horizons, and the Coalition of Muslim Women Kitchener-Waterloo.

Students who are considering applying to next year's PS492 course are encouraged to attend.
