Have you ever looked at the beer menu at a restaurant, and wondered what language it was written in? ABV, IBU, IPA…what’s with all the acronyms? As the number of craft breweries in Ontario has exploded over the past decade, so too has the selection offered to customers in stores and restaurants. The purpose of this webinar is to teach participants to decipher the beer menu at a bar or restaurant and learn to appreciate the origin and characteristics of a variety of traditional and seasonal beer styles. We will discuss the ingredients common to all beers, and the distinctions between beer styles to help you identify your own beer preferences.
Although the webinar will be conducted in an online format, it will be experiential; you will have the option* to purchase the beer styles discussed in the webinar in advance so that you can sample as you learn!
This session will be lead by Laurier alumna Sally Heath (BA '02). She has taught in the Canadian Studies and North American Studies programs at Laurier since 2003, as well as Laurier's Lifelong Learning 'The History of Beer' course. She is a passionate consumer of craft beer and is currently working toward her Cicerone designation.
*An optional beer shopping list will be shared with registrants in advance of the webinar.
