Summer Movies in Duke St. Park: Fly Away Home
Start Date: 7/7/2018Start Time: 9:00 PM
End Date: 7/7/2018End Time: 11:00 PM

Event Description:

Join friends and neighbours for a free outdoor screening of Fly Away Home (1996), a thrilling and charming family-friendly movie about a father and daughter who train a flock of abandoned geese to follow their ultralight planes from Canada to a winter home in North Carolina.

Directed by Caroll Ballard (The Black Stallion) starring Anna Paquin and Jeff Daniels in their younger years, Fly Away Home is based on the experiences of both Bill Lishman, who in 1986 started training Canada Geese to follow his ultralight aircraft, and Dr. William J.L. Sladen, a British-born zoologist and adventurer, who aided Lishman with the migration. (Canadian Content Alert: Most of the film was shot in southeastern Ontario!)

All are welcome to attend this free event, sponsored by the Office of the Dean of Arts and the Department of English and Film Studies. The screening starts at sundown, shortly after 9 pm. Bring your own blankets and snacks. The park is a flat turf surface and has no stairs. We will make every effort to accommodate individuals of diverse abilities.
