Waste Not, Want Not: Rethinking Wastewater Treatment
Start Date: 4/10/2019Start Time: 7:00 PM
End Date: 4/10/2019End Time: 7:30 PM

Event Description:

Speaker: Dr. Scott Smith, Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, Faculty of Science

Global water shortages and improved standards of living in emerging economies, coupled with aging infrastructure, will lead to global opportunities for wastewater treatment and reuse technologies. Most wastewater treatment plants in North America were built in the mid-sixties to early seventies and are approaching the end of their design life. Now is a perfect time to rethink methods of treating wastewater with a new emphasis on resource recovery. The history of wastewater treatment will be discussed along with a presentation of future possible water use scenarios and a discussion of the consequences of not rethinking our approach to wastewater treatment.

This event is part of the Laurier Milton Lecture Series, a partnership between the Town of Milton, Laurier and the Milton Public Library.
