  • All Day Zero Waste Week Laurier (Multi-Day Event)

We're extremely excited to announce that the Sustainability Office will be hosting Laurier's first ever Zero Waste Week!

The Zero Waste Movement is getting stronger and we're eager to be a part of it. Taking the step to go waste-free has countless environmental, economic and social benefits. It not only conserves our resources, but it also reduces our climate impact, promotes social equality and builds community.

Tons of fun activities are planned for Laurier's Zero Waste Week starting March 4 with a new theme each day. We'll be kicking off Monday with a focus on awareness, followed by food, fashion and education over the course of the week. Stay tuned for film screenings, cooking classes, workshop series and much more. And don't worry – we have prizes too. By participating, you'll be entered for the chance to win daily prizes and of course... an exclusive grand prize!

Visit our Facebook page @LaurierSustainabilty for more event details.

  • 10:00 AM - 10:00 PM Barry Ace: Coalesce, Mixed Media Installation (Opening)

Join us to celebrate the final exhibition of the season.

Coalesce presents a fusion of distinct Anishinaabeg aesthetics of the Great Lakes’ region with the refuse from Western society’s technological and digital age. This entanglement of materials intentionally shifts the object’s materiality and its accepted paradigm within the physical world. Through this integration and juxtaposition of recognizable Anishinaabeg materials used in Anishinaabeg material culture (e.g. glass beads, porcupine quills), with contemporary electronic materials (e.g. capacitors and resistors), the exhibition will challenge viewers to reject and re-examine notions of cultural status.

10:00 AM - 12:00 PM Navigating Contentious Topics in the Classroom

Teaching about contentious topics in an age of polarized opinions can be daunting … or it can be a pathway to deepening learning. By the end of this session, you will be able to: 1) Identify problematic aspects of invisible assumptions in education and their concomitant exclusions and silencing impact within classroom discussions; and 2) Contemplate what can be done before, during, and after class to encourage student engagement and to foster the inclusion of multiple perspectives.

    Register for the session.
