The Buzz about Bumble Bees!
Start Date: 3/26/2019Start Time: 11:50 AM
End Date: 3/26/2019End Time: 1:00 PM

Event Description:

Speakers

  • Hayley Tompkins (University of Guelph & Wildlife Preservation Canada)
  • Genevieve Rowe (Wildlife Preservation Canada)

Bumble bees are important pollinators of many food crops, as well as trees and flowering plants in natural ecosystems. Not much is known about the nesting ecology of bumble bees, but researchers with the University of Guelph and Wildlife Preservation Canada are working to fill in the gaps.

Join us on March 26 at 12:00 p.m. to learn more about where bumble bees nest and why, and get some tips on identifying common and rare species.

At the end of the talk, participants will have the opportunity to install some artificial nest boxes and can sign up to survey for bumble bees at Pinery Provincial Park this summer as part of a formal citizen science program. Installing boxes following the workshop will require a 10 minute walk to the Laurier Food Forest located on the Northdale Campus.

Lunch is provided for people who register by March 22!
