All Day LIFT Exhibition Series: Unobstructed Beauty (Multi-Day Event)

This year, the LIFT series features three female painters from the Waterloo Region: Lauren Judge, Marion R. Anderson, and Anne Filiatrault. Each artist shares a narrative that invites viewers to reflect on how we perceive and experience our surrounding environment.

The LIFT microgalleries are located on floors 4-6 of the Waterloo campus Library daily from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

  • All Day Zaagi’idwin: Silent, Unquestionable Act of Love, a multimedia installation by artist Leanna Marshall (Multi-Day Event)

Leanna Marshall is a member of Kitchenuhmaykoosib Inninuwug. Her art practice focuses on the art of ancestral storytelling – creating an intersection where viewers can meet to understand the essence of relationships, connection/disconnection and loss. Through the making and documentation of seven jingle dresses, Marshall explores the stories that have shaped her perception of the complexities of her family history in the context of Canadian history. The social inequities, resistance and sadness told in these narratives serves as a springboard to examine the act of healing, compassion and forgiveness.

  • 12:30 PM - 6:00 PM BDO New Venture Competition Finals

The BDO New Venture Competition is a highlight of the first-year of the Bachelor of Business Administration program. Starting in the fall term, BU111 students work in small teams to come up with an idea for a new venture, which they then develop into a business during the winter term in BU121. The teams each prepare a report and pitch their new business to their lab. In an experiential setting, the students are evaluated on their ability to perform independent research, to manage time effectively, and to manage the diverse skills, talents, and capabilities of different individuals within their group.

The top team from each lab presents their business to a panel of judges containing alumni, and the top team from each judging panel presents to entrepreneurs and community leaders who select a winner at the annual competition in March. This year, approximately 240 teams will be competing, with 48 teams in the semi-finals and 6 teams making their final pitch on March 24th with scholarship money and bragging rights at stake.
