Start Date: 2/28/2019Start Time: 12:00 PM
End Date: 2/28/2019End Time: 1:00 PM

Event Description:

Impact of Parental Leaves on Women and Men’s Careers: What You Did Not Know, What You Should Know, and Strategies for Successfully Managing Both Parental Leaves and Careers!

Taking one-year (and now longer) parental leaves are common in corporate Canada. Such parental leave policies are much needed and critical as they help employees manage both having children and careers. Yet, what is less known or discussed are potential penalties and negative career impacts of longer parental leaves, especially for women and their careers.

In this webinar, you will learn what research says about impacts of parental leaves on career outcomes and how parental leaves influence more broadly gender equality. The webinar will also present some interesting research findings on how parental leaves have some differential influences on the careers of men and women. Finally, specific strategies will be discussed for managing and enjoying both, longer parental leaves and time with newborn children and successful careers.

Hosted by Ivona Hideg, an Associate Professor in the Organizational Behaviour and Human Resource Management Area in the Lazaridis School of Business & Economics at Wilfrid Laurier University. She holds a PhD in Management (OB/HRM) from the Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto, and MSc in I/O Psychology from the University of Waterloo.
