All Day Wear Purple Day! Shining a Light on Gender Based Violence

Hey Laurier! We are asking you to wear purple on Nov. 29 to demonstrate your commitment to ending Gender-Based Violence in our community and beyond! We are asking that individuals, groups, and departments wear purple, take a picture, post it online and tag Consent is Golden!

The Sexual Violence Education Action Group is coordinating ‘Wear Purple Day’ to call attention to the International Campaign- 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence. Sixteen Days of Activism begins on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women (Nov. 25), and ends on International Human Rights Day (Dec. 10). The 16 Days of Activism also include the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence against Women on Dec. 6. This is a time to reflect on violence against women, trans and non-binary folks, and take action to end it. Check out the FB pages for Laurier’s 16 Days of Activism programming here:

This year’s theme, #MYActionsMatter, is a call to action that asks everyone to take concrete steps to question, call out, and speak up against acts of gender-based violence (GBV). Recently, public attention has shone a light on what statistics have long confirmed: women in Canada and around the world continue to face disproportionate levels of violence each and every day. #MYActionsMatter asks the question: what will you do?

Status of Woman Canada GBV involves the use and abuse of power and control over another person and is perpetrated against someone based on their gender identity, gender expression or perceived gender. Violence against women and girls is one form of GBV. It also has a disproportionate impact on LGBTQ2 and gender non-binary people.

Consent is Golden is now being run by the Sexual Violence Response Coordinator, out of the Office of Dispute Resolution and Support. You can check out the Consent is Golden campaign on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to reach out to Laurier’s Sexual Violence Response Coordinator at
