Lost & Found

The assemblage of found objects into creative acts that function as new meaning can be traced back to the 16th century, with the popularity of Cabinets of Curiosities. These collections of rare or unusual objects were displayed to tell stories about the oddities of the natural world. By the 1900s, this aesthetic quality moved into the art practice of artists such as Pablo Picasso, Marcel Duchamp, Salvador Dali, and later, artists Tony Cragg, Tracey Emin and Danh Vo, among many others. Lost & found explores this concept by dissolving the conventional understanding of ordinary objects to form unexpected narratives that challenge viewers to think critically. Collectively, artists Susan Coolen, Agnes Niewiadomski and Paul Roorda have heightened the pleasure of looking and invite us to question how stories can be told.

The Library is committed to providing programs, events and services that are accessible to all. Please contact us if you require accommodation due to a disability.
