All Day Xiaojing Yan: Heaven and Earth Mixed Media Installation (Multi-Day Event)

Xiaojing Yan's Heaven and Earth is a mixed media installation that features a mountain made of thousands of pine needles embedded in a silk organza and presents a different approach to traditional Chinese landscape painting.

Xiaojing Yan is a Chinese-Canadian artist based in Markham, Ontario. Her art highlights sculptural installations that combine the cultural and natural world and integrates both Western and Eastern elements, paralleling her own cultural identity a a Chinese-Canadian.

  • 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM Biidaaban: First Light Virtual Reality Film
    Biidaaban: First Light takes viewers to a future Toronto, where the city’s infrastructure has been reclaimed by nature and Indigenous language and knowledge survive. The interactive short film illuminates how Indigenous languages can provide a framework for understanding place. As viewers move through a city overtaken by the natural world, they hear the languages of the original inhabitants of the place first known as Tkaronto.

    Arts Based Therapies Introduction: Presenters: Heidi Argyle BA, DTATI, MA, RCAT, RP (q) and Carly Leyburne BFA, DTATI (q) Guests will learn about the roots of art therapy, how art therapists approach their work with different populations and how art therapy contributes to positive, meaningful change in a person’s like through personal stories and case examples. A small experiential component will take place during the presentation.

    Rev. Dr. Gyeong Kim, assistant professor of spiritual care and psychotherapy, leads the reflection.

    A casual drop-in time for makers and aspiring makers to visit and work in the Library Makerspace. All are welcome to explore 3D printing, sewing, diecutting, photography and much more.

  • 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM Senate Finance
    The S​​enate Finance Committee considers the financial position of the university and its fiscal responsibility for maintaining all academic programs. It makes recommendations to Senate on budget planning as well as on the details of the annual university operating budget as prepared for presentation to Senate and the Board of Governors. The recommendations of Senate on that budget are forwarded to the Board of Governors, the body with ultimate fiduciary responsibility for the university.

    The agenda will be posted approximately one week in advance of the meeting and approved minutes will follow once approved at the subsequent meeting.  Full agenda packages can be accessed on Laurier Connect.
