All Day Xiaojing Yan: Heaven and Earth Mixed Media Installation (Multi-Day Event)

Xiaojing Yan's Heaven and Earth is a mixed media installation that features a mountain made of thousands of pine needles embedded in a silk organza and presents a different approach to traditional Chinese landscape painting.

Xiaojing Yan is a Chinese-Canadian artist based in Markham, Ontario. Her art highlights sculptural installations that combine the cultural and natural world and integrates both Western and Eastern elements, paralleling her own cultural identity a a Chinese-Canadian.

    Join us to talk about strategies to increase resilience, awareness and emotional control. Workshops are free for all registered students, and registration is not required. Find the Wellness Education Centre below the Student Wellness Centre and down the hall from Veritas Café.

    The World Café allows for collaborative conversations. It is based on the premise that collectively, we have all the knowledge we need. Our task is to tap into this shared knowledge and build on our understanding. The insights shared at the World Cafés, along with other sources of community input, will help inform the steering committee as it builds Laurier's Strategic Plan: 2019-2024.     Join us for the opening reception of Heaven and Earth, a mixed media installation by Xiaojing Yan. This installation references ancient Chinese teachings and speaks to the connection between the heavenly and earthly realms through the use of pine needles embedded in silk organza.

    The opening reception will be held in the Robert Langen Art Gallery from 4-6pm, with artist Xiaojing Yan on hand to talk about her work.

  • 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM Community Lecture: Friends and Neighbours of Woodland Cultural Centre

    Darren Thomas will be discussing his dissertation project which is examining Indigenous rights and resource governance in the "Ring of Fire" in Northern Ontario. Darren is also part of an international team of scholars and activists that are documenting the implementation of free, prior, informed consent in North and South America. Friends and Neighbours is a grassroots committee supporting the Woodland Cultural Centre and itsSave the Evidence Campaign in Brantford, ON.
